The Comboni Missionary family has marked a significant milestone in its long-standing commitment to serving humanity with the official opening of Limone Medical Centre, a modern healthcare facility located on Plot 94 Ismael Road, Mbuya, Kampala. The new medical centre represents a major investment in quality, compassionate, and accessible healthcare, providing a wide range of medical services in a peaceful and serene environment that is far removed from the congestion and noise of the city.
Named Limone Medical Centre after Limone sul Garda, the birthplace of St. Daniel Comboni, founder of the Comboni Missionaries, the facility embodies the missionary spirit of service, compassion, and care for the most vulnerable members of society. The choice of the name reflects the congregation’s desire to honour the legacy of St. Daniel Comboni, whose life was dedicated to serving people with dignity, especially those living in marginalized communities.
The opening ceremony brought together members of the Comboni Missionary family, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, invited guests, and members of the local community who gathered to witness the beginning of what is expected to become an important centre of excellence in healthcare. The event celebrated not only the completion of a modern medical facility but also the realization of a vision that seeks to combine professional medical services with Christian values of compassion, respect, and human dignity.
Speaking during the launch, the Medical Manager of Limone Medical Centre, Dr. Ambrosoli Adok, emphasized that the institution is founded on strong ethical and Christian values. He explained that the centre is committed to providing quality healthcare through a team of highly dedicated professionals who place patients at the heart of everything they do. According to Dr. Ambrosoli, healthcare should go beyond simply diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medication. Instead, true healing requires addressing the whole person—physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, and spiritually. This holistic approach forms the foundation upon which Limone Medical Centre intends to build its reputation.
“We believe every patient deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect,” Dr. Ambrosoli said. “Our commitment is to provide healthcare that heals not only the body but also supports the mind and nourishes the soul. Every individual who walks through our doors should feel welcomed, valued, and cared for.” He further explained that the centre has assembled a team of qualified healthcare professionals who are dedicated to delivering patient-centred care while maintaining the highest standards of medical ethics and professionalism. Their mission is not only to treat diseases but also to build lasting relationships of trust with patients and the surrounding community.
“Our goal is to inspire confidence among our clients through excellent service, integrity, and genuine compassion,” he added. “We believe that trust is the cornerstone of quality healthcare, and we intend to earn that trust every day through our commitment to excellence.” Limone Medical Centre has been designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of individuals and families by offering a comprehensive range of medical services under one roof. Patients will have access to outpatient consultations, general medical examinations, and specialist consultations covering various areas of medicine. The facility also provides antenatal care aimed at ensuring healthy pregnancies and safe motherhood through regular monitoring and professional guidance for expectant mothers.
In addition, the centre offers patient day-care services, enabling individuals to receive treatment without requiring overnight admission. Minor surgical procedures can also be carried out within the facility using modern equipment and qualified medical personnel, ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatment in a comfortable environment.
Recognizing the importance of timely diagnosis, Limone Medical Centre has invested in laboratory services that provide accurate and reliable medical testing. Dr. Ambrosoli noted that while the facility has been established as a community-based healthcare institution inspired by missionary values, it must also operate in a financially sustainable manner to continue serving future generations. He explained that the management has carefully balanced affordability with quality by setting fees that remain accessible to ordinary Ugandans while enabling the centre to maintain high standards of service and operational efficiency. “We are not driven by profit,” he explained. “However, we must ensure that the medical centre remains sustainable. Our fees have therefore been set at affordable levels that allow us to provide quality healthcare without operating at a loss. This enables us to continue investing in better equipment, skilled personnel, and improved patient services.”
The centre’s establishment reflects the Comboni Missionaries’ enduring commitment to social development through education, evangelization, and healthcare. For decades, the congregation has been actively involved in improving the quality of life for communities through various development initiatives across Uganda and beyond. Initially, Limone Medical Centre is expected to provide healthcare services to members of the Comboni Missionary family serving within and around Mbuya. However, its vision extends far beyond serving the congregation alone. The facility is also intended to serve the wider community, particularly individuals and families who often find it difficult to afford treatment in larger private hospitals.
By providing affordable, professional, and compassionate healthcare, the centre hopes to bridge the gap between expensive private medical facilities and overstretched public hospitals. Its leadership believes that access to quality healthcare should never be determined solely by one’s financial ability.
The peaceful location of the medical centre further enhances its appeal. Nestled in the quiet surroundings of Mbuya, away from the hustle and bustle of central Kampala, the facility offers patients a calm environment that supports recovery and healing. Medical experts increasingly recognize that peaceful surroundings can positively influence emotional well-being, reduce stress, and contribute to better health outcomes. The official opening ceremony was presided over by the Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries, Fr. Tesfay Tadesse, who commended the congregation for transforming the property into a meaningful project that serves both the Church and society.
Addressing the gathering, Fr. Tadesse congratulated the leadership of the Comboni Missionaries, particularly Fr. Achilles Kiwanuka, for their vision, patience, and determination throughout the planning and development process. “I would like to congratulate Fr. Achilles Kiwanuka and the entire Comboni Missionary family,” he said. “A great deal of research, consultation, and careful planning went into deciding how best to utilize this property. I am grateful that the council ultimately found a purpose that will benefit so many people and contribute positively to the community.”
He observed that the establishment of Limone Medical Centre reflects the congregation’s commitment to responding to the changing needs of society. While proclaiming the Gospel remains central to the missionary vocation, practical expressions of Christian love through healthcare, education, and social services remain equally important aspects of the Church’s mission. Fr. Tadesse encouraged the staff to carry out their responsibilities with humility, professionalism, and compassion, reminding them that every patient represents a human life deserving of respect and dignity regardless of social status or economic background. He further challenged healthcare workers to become instruments of hope by treating each patient with kindness, listening attentively to their concerns, and providing care that restores not only physical health but also emotional strength and spiritual confidence.
