The Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda His Excellence Archbishop Bianco Luigi opened up a new Parish in Kokoria, Kotido diocese on April 20th 2024. The Parish in Kokoria is dedicated to St Daniel Comboni. The Parish was opened by the diocese of Kotido in collaboration with the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus. The Parish Priest of the new Parish is a Comboni Missionary Fr. Augustine Epeiru MCCJ, he will be working with a priest from the diocese of Kotido Fr. Joseph Lokiding.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus Fr Anthony Kibira Kimbowa MCCJ said, despite the fact that Fr Augustine is the Parish Priest of St Daniel Comboni Parish Kokoria, he remains a member of Kanawat Comboni Missionaries Community.
The Bishop of Kotido was grateful to the people of Kokoria for providing land to the church and promised them that the land will be developed it for the church to benefit the people. He said the land was given for a good purpose and also called upon the Parish Priest to be obedient to his Superiors andhisBishopandalsoteachthe congregation to be Obedient.
The new Parish of Kokoria has been curved out of Mary Mother of God Kanawat Parish which is fully a Comboni Parish in Kotido diocese. At the moment, the diocese has only one Comboni Parish after the closure of Christ the King Parish Losilang.
However, the Parish Priest of Mary Mother of God Parish Kanawat Fr Gabriel Angella MCCJ said he is happy that another Parish was opened in Kokoria, he added that this is a sign that faith is growing and also the presence of the Parish will strengthen the little faith in Kokoria and it will give a sense of security to the Christians because they have priests at their disposal and know where to run.
According to Fr Gabriel, before Kokoria was curved out of Kanawat, the Parish had 22 Chapels with the furthest chapel being 65 Km away from Kanawat. Right now Kanawat will remain with 13 chapels and Kokoria will take up nine Chapels.
