The Comboni Missionaries in Ecuador are working with enthusiasm proclaiming the gospel among the poor and most abandoned, so that they may have full life and become in turn missionaries to their brothers and sisters, up to the end of the earth. Our priority is to accompany the afro-descendant groups who are extremely poor. Since 2nd April 1955, the Comboni Missionaries Fathers and Sisters took over the pastoral work in the Esmeraldas Vicariate, with the following parishes: La Merced in Esmeraldas town, Borbon, San Lorenzo, collaborating with Mons. Eugenio Arellano (actual Bishop). We are also in some areas where the indigenous people stay, in particular the Cayapas (Chachi) y Awa. Everything is integrated in the service of first evangelization, catechesis at all levels and social pastoral.
In the provincial house we have the procure in order to help the missionaries and other initiatives related with the Comboni missionary charism: 0MP (missionary pontif1cal works), missionary youth groups, media centre, Ecuadorian Religious Conference and attendance to communities.
In 1976 we serving in other regions in need of evangelization and helping the local clergy. Manabi (pastoral in the parish and rural communities). We are also present in the south coast of Ecuador, in the town of Guayaquil where we have the Afro Cultural Centre which aims at the formation of afro missionaries, the youth and afro families. The Afro Centre is also committed in the social and prisons pastoral, Justice and Peace and Missionary Animation. Missionary promotion through the magazines and in particular “Sin Fronteras” is a priority.
Lastly, the formation of future missionaries in our Postulancy in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador is part of our missionary work. We also work with numerous groups of lay committed people who share the zeal of St. Daniel Comboni.
